Off-Road Engineering

When you’re doing a recreational trail ride, driving through muddy terrain or crawling steep obstacles, using products designed with solid off-road engineering is key.  In every off-road adventure, a good approach angle is crucial to navigate slopes and obstacles without bottoming out.  This angle is affected by front bumper design, vehicle body overhang, and ground clearance.  At MRT, we love to trail ride, so we know the importance of maximum ground clearance; plus, Team MRT doesn’t want our exhaust to be the first thing to hit the ground when our Bronco wheel falls into a hole!

MRT’s Off-road engineering approach for a cat back exhaust or axle back system is pretty straight forward.   For maximum ground clearance, MRT’s exhaust package uses a mandrel-bent exhaust tube designed to closely follow the underbody path while maintaining body and chassis clearances.  We finish the exhaust with a high-tucked, simple turndown exhaust tip for a clean aesthetic and maximum ground clearance.  All other MRT engineering principles, such as using OE attachment points, stay the same.

For some off-road vehicles, we designed a system where the turndown tip can be swapped for a polished tip. Exhaust grabs your attention while bling keeps it.  Team MRT also designed the Greatest Over Axle Turndown (G.O.A.T.) Series exhausts for maximum off-road performance.

Of course, sound engineering is important for everyday driving experience and off-road adventures.  Team MRT designed 2 Mountain River Trail exhaust sound profiles:  Trail Rated and King of the Hill.

The MRT Trail Rated series gives your vehicle a well-rounded performance exhaust sound. It balances refinement and capability. This tone is a deeper, baritone note that’s noticeable yet not overwhelming—ideal for both daily driving and off-road excursions.  For enthusiasts who want an upgrade that enhances both performance, sound quality, and style, the MRT Trail Rated systems offer a smooth transition from city streets to rugged trails. Team MRT nicknames this sound as the “Balanced Performer.”

The MRT King of the Hill sound profile is designed for the off-road purist. If you demand extra attitude with a more pronounced, aggressive exhaust tone that truly demands attention on any trail, look no further.  With a King of the Hill axle back, your vehicle roars with a raw performance sound that underlines its credentials at wide open throttle, delivering increased sounds from the turbo and burbles on decel, to an exhaust note that still refines enough when cruising around town.  These performance exhaust systems will unleash an aggressive off-road attitude your adventure demands.
