20-Year MRT Premium Exhaust Journey

Hey have you ever heard of Mustang Racing Technology, Inc (MRT)?  It’s a company that has gone through an incredible transformation over the past 20 years.  From starting out as a eCommerce store dedicated to Mustang parts, MRT has become a world-class manufacturer of high-quality performance parts for enthusiasts in the Ford, GM, Jeep, Dodge, Toyota, Honda Subaru and Polaris markets.

The Beginning

It all started when Scott Hoag worked at Ford as the Mustang customization manager.  He was instrumental in leading the design, development and launch of the 2001 Bullitt Mustang and the 2003 Mach 1. During his time at Ford, he loved talking to fellow enthusiasts and discussing project cars, Mustang history, Pony car trivia and dreaming up ways to make each Mustang a more personal expression of its owner. Scott understood it’s very difficult to customize AND mass produce a sports car so he began dreaming about how to make better aftermarket products that would help the pony car enthusiast enjoy his Mustang even more.

In 2002 Scott resigned from Ford, formed a new company and in 2003 launched an eCommerce store dedicated to Mustangs parts. The timing was ideal. Online shopping was growing and moving from book and magazine Amazon shopping to larger eCommerce stores.  Also, in 2003 Mustang was the ONLY muscle car in production after the Camaro exited in 2002.  No Charger.  No Challenger and the Corvette played in a completely different space. Mustang was the name of the game.

In the early days, MRT worked alongside a variety of individuals to create and sell H-pipe exhaust, shifters, Wheels, Suspension, Bullitt Shift Knob and Cold Air Kits Mustang aftermarket parts that were sold through the website. These products were designed with inspiration from Scott’s interaction with the Mustang community as well as from fitment and development testing on the MRT Mach 1 Racer Scott drove as part of the American Iron Race series.

In the Middle

In 2003, MRT started participating in the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show as the designer and builder of 2003 Mustang SEMA car and continued SEMA builds for most of the next 20 years of business. In fact, the MRT No Drill hood struts were initially developed and showcased on the MRT 2005 SEMA project car. These venues were great opportunities for Scott to develop MRT’s presence in the aftermarket industry and showcase the functionality, premium materials and American-made quality of MRT products. Today, you can buy many of these initial Mustang MRT products from the ShopMRT Mustang catalog.

Back in 2009, when Chevy released the 2010 Camaro, MRT saw an opportunity to broaden their product line and reach more customers who were passionate about sports cars, specifically Camaro.  They started creating exhaust systems that would give V6 Camaros a performance, sporty sound while also improving their performance.  People love it!  In fact, the response was so positive that MRT expanded their product lineup to include other Camaro models  as well.  Oh, and a fun fact – when they introduced these Camaro exhaust systems, MRT decided to rebrand to appeal to a wider audience beyond just Mustang enthusiasts.
